Job Description The Research & Data Services team consists of 5 individuals and operates as a small business entity within the fund reporting directly to Executive Management. The team is focused on the delivery of market data and alternative research services to a large and diverse global user community consisting of Portfolio Managers, Traders and Analysts. The users rely on an extensive and varied supply of market data and alternative research services in order to maintain a competitive position within the industry.

It is the goal of the Research & Data Services team to advance the firm’s position by proactively investigating new services, upgrading offerings and supplying to the funds’ users, ‘best of breed’ information services. The Research & Data Services team works in a consultative manner with its clients and is focused on providing high touch customer service to ensure total client satisfaction.

Roles & Responsibilities:
•Provide “best of breed”, scalable and cost effective solutions

•Proactively develop and maintain strong business relationships with all assigned clients. In particular:
- Develop, maintain and be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of client’s businesses and corresponding data needs
- Ensure services are delivered on time, to spec and lower cost alternatives are presented in conjunction with an appropriate cost/benefit analysis
- Thoroughly analyze client requirements to ensure that proposed products meets clients’ needs but do not incur unnecessary increased costs to SAC
- Ensure clients are deriving max benefit and value from product suite by leveraging vendor resources for training
- Proactively seek to add value throughout the procurement process
- Ensure clients have full spend transparency on a regular basis, proactively present opportunities to reduce spend
- Ensure all non-technical support issues are addressed to client’s satisfaction in a timely manner

•Strategically manage assigned vendor relationships. In particular:
- Proactively develop and maintain strong operational relationships and senior level contacts to measurably improve overall relationship
- Develop, maintain and demonstrate a detailed understanding of vendor strategy, product roadmaps and competitive landscape
- Proactively develop and drive a Research & Data strategy for assigned vendors

•Ensure vendor contracts are effectively negotiated yielding superior terms (e.g. price, flexibility etc.) than commonly available in the market place

•Ensure internal use of services are in compliance with vendor contracts and obligations – where non-compliance occurs escalate and remediate

•Proactively seek, present and execute on any opportunities to reduce costs and increase control. In particular:
- Substantially support team’s efforts in all expense reduction programs by ensuring successful completion of assigned projects and goals
- Demonstrate a detailed understanding of all lower cost alternatives necessary to support assigned client base

•Thoroughly analyze both clients and product mix to develop a strategic Research & Data Services plan for client base which:
- Reduces cost and adds value to the investment process
- Falls within firm’s strategy


Requirements Personal Requirements
•Comprehensive financial services and Market Data industry knowledge.
•Strong and specialized knowledge of Market Data vendors, products and services – must have broad content expertise
•Minimum of 7 years experience working within a Market Data/Research group at a financial services firm.
•Demonstrated leadership abilities – must have expertise in planning and organizing priorities
•Proactive and dedicated work ethic a must with desire to succeed in a challenging environment requiring multitasking and frequently shifting priorities
•Knowledge of various hedge fund investment strategies (Long/Short Equity, Event Driven, Quantitative, etc.) and the general market data needs within each
•Superior communication, presentation and analytical skills – ability to effectively manage and execute strategy
•Superior negotiation skills – must be able to lead challenging and complex negotiations
•Ability to deliver a consistent message to a wide audience encompassing all levels and personalities
•Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects through full life cycle
•Ability to manage demanding deadlines and client expectations – is keenly aware of time constraints and/or special requirements, follows up and consistently delivers quality feedback
•Attention to detail, thorough and organized – a must
•Internal and external sales ability
•Ability to deliver a consistent message to a wide audience encompassing all levels and personalities
•Education: BA/BS required in finance, business, operations or related discipline.
