P&L Analyst

I organized my first interview with SAC Capital through Fairfield University’s campus recruiting program. I was aware of the firm’s prestigious reputation and was eager to apply for an open position. I met with several bright individuals and quickly realized that SAC was a place that would both challenge me intellectually and provide great career opportunities.

As a profit and loss analyst, I am mainly responsible for reconciling and maintaining several multi-strategy trading accounts across the equities platform. I ensure that the firm’s trading and accounting systems are recorded to accurately reflect P&L from both a front and back office perspective. At SAC, I have expanded my knowledge of the hedge fund industry and have developed a better understanding of how the business operates. I am constantly exposed to a variety of investment products and am privileged to have a macro view of the firm’s overall performance.

I am also responsible for providing trader support by addressing select queries and requests, as well as completing various group projects. Recently, I have taken an initiative in testing the development of a new workspace application that will greatly enhance our controller processes.

I am originally from Long Island, but relocated to Stamford to reduce my daily commute to a quick ten minutes. My experience at SAC thus far has been both challenging and rewarding. As a recent graduate, I have found the firm to be a great place to start my career.

Day in the life of Jeffrey Colletta

7:00: Wake up, make a cup of coffee, put on CNBC, get ready.

7:50: Drive into work from my Stamford apartment -- ten minute commute .

8:00: Log onto my computer and check all emails / voicemails / headline financial news.

8:15: Go down to the cafeteria and get breakfast.

8:20: Prepare all accounts and prioritize outstanding issues.

10:30: Investigate and resolve large P&L variances before the afternoon deadline.

12:30: Grab lunch and bring it back to my desk.

12:45-6:30: The rest of the day I spend most of my time reconciling all discrepancies down to an immaterial amount to ensure accurate P&L. I am always on the phone or sending emails to operations notifying them of issues that must be resolved. I will also address trader inquiries and requests, complete group projects, and test the new workspace application during this time.

6:30: Log off my computer and drive back home.
